Fun Is Always In Season

Palisades Tahoe (formerly Squaw Valley) is where the 1960 Winter Olympics took place, so it’s no surprise this is a prime recreation destination. But outside is always a great place to be in Lake Tahoe, any time of year. The most beautiful trails in California are right outside our door, and the summer and fall weather is sublime for hiking and mountain biking.

Relax and unwind on the sandy shores of some of our favorite nearby beaches, including Commons Beach in Tahoe City; Moon Dunes, North Lake; Sand Harbor, East Shore; Zephyr Cove and Emerald Bay, South Shore; and Bliss State Park and Chambers Landing, West Shore.

There are plenty of ways to do the Truckee. Grab a sturdy inner tube and float your way from Tahoe City to River Ranch, take a bike ride along the river banks, or settle in for some excellent fishing.

North Lake Tahoe offers a multitude of options for the road cyclist and mountain biker. You can ride directly from the Inn to get to mountain bike trails and world-class road riding. Connect with our Guest Services Team for suggestions on popular trails and road options. The Inn also provides cruiser bikes for the surrounding bike paths around Olympic Valley and along the Truckee River.

Some of the most beautiful day hikes in California are just up the road. For starters, the iconic Shirley Lake Trail with its waterfalls, lake views, and canyon boulders begins 0.4 miles from our front door.

Regularly named among the country’s best ski resorts, Palisades Tahoe delivers unmatched winter adventures for skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels. Between its two mountains, there are 34 lifts offering access to more than 270 trails.

Cross Country Skiing & Snowshoe Trails

Snowshoeing is the easiest of winter snow sports to learn – if you know how to walk, you can snowshoe! Rent snowshoes locally and hit the trails in North Tahoe Regional Park or take a guided snowshoe tour into the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Tahoe Cross Country Ski Area, just 11 miles from PlumpJack, offers lessons, a groomed cross-country ski area and a cozy lodge for light bites & equipment rentals.

Relax while an experienced musher guides a team of hardy huskies through the pine forests of the Sierra Nevadas. Best part- no need to travel to Alaska- sledders in Truckee and Lake Tahoe will happily hook you up!

Snowmobiling & Mini Snowmobiling

Snowmobiling is a thrilling way to explore Tahoe and Truckee’s backcountry, reaching areas that would take hours to access on foot. Local snowmobile outfitters offer a variety of guided tours to suit your skill level (and urge for excitement). Kids ages 6-12 can strap on a helmet and ride a snowmobile just their size around the SnoVentures mini snowmobile course (only 0.5 miles from PlumpJack Inn) while families enjoy beverages and snacks in the toasty SnoVentures Lodge.

Snoventures, just half a mile from PlumpJack Inn, keeps it simple, offering tubes in two sizes: big (adults) and little (kids). Their magic carpet-style escalator lift is, well, magic. Add a cozy lodge complete with a fire pit and hot chocolate and it’s a perfect day.
